Dogecoin (DOGE)

Dogecoin is a type of cryptocurrency based on the well-known "Doge" Internet meme. It has Shiba Inu as its logo. Dogecoin is a fork of the Litecoin cryptocurrency. On 6 December 2013, Dogecoin was launched as a "joke currency," and it rapidly formed its own online community, reaching a valuation of US$60 million in January 2014.

In comparison to other cryptocurrencies, Dogecoin has a short initial coin production timeline. Around 100 billion coins were in use by the middle of 2015 and 5.256 billion coins were added annually after that. The 100 billionth Dogecoin was mined on June 30, 2015.

Dogecoin was created by Billy Markus of Portland (Oregon) and Jackson Palmer of Sydney (Australia). Both wanted to build a fun cryptocurrency that would appeal to people outside of the core Bitcoin audience. 

Dogecoin is largely utilized as a tipping system on Reddit and Twitter, with users rewarding one another for generating or sharing valuable content. The community is highly active in organizing charitable fundraising activities.

The success of Dogecoin is intimately connected to Elon Musk's enthusiasm for it. Musk began tweeting about Dogecoin in early 2021, with a Lion King DOGE joke. This sparked a furious DOGE rally, punctuated by brief dips, which culminated in Musk's appearance on Saturday Night Live.
